FAQ about the Family Account

Get answers to all your questions about the Iberia Club Family Account

What is the Family Account?

The Iberia Club Family Account lets you group between 2 and 7 people (1 administrator and 6 members) to collect Avios in a shared balance and redeem them for flights or additional services, such as upgrades and other ancillaries. Please note that you will maintain your Iberia Club tier and associated benefits, as well as the Elite Points in your account and the policy for maintaining and moving up through the tiers.

Who can create a Family Account?

Anyone who is member of Iberia Club and of legal age can create a Family Account. As the creator of the account, you will be the administrator and the only person who can manage the account: send invitations to other people, remove members, close the account, etc.
The Family Account will be activated when at least one of your guests accepts your invitation.

How do I create a Family Account?

To create an account you will have to log in to Iberia Club and follow these steps: Select "My Iberia Club", then "Family Account" and then "Create Family Account". You will then receive a validation code to protect your security and enable you to complete the process.
Remember, you can send up to 6 invitations to people you trust, as long as they have an active Iberia Club or Iberia Kids account.

Who can join a Family Account?

The administrator or person who creates the account can choose up to 6 people they trust, regardless of their age, as long as they belong to Iberia Club or Iberia Kids and have not already joined another Family Account. You can't send an invitation to a person who isn't a member of Iberia Club.

How do I invite someone to the Family Account?

To invite someone to join the Family Account, you must:

  • Send the invitation.
    Go to your private area and follow these steps: Select "My Iberia Club", then "Family Account" and then "Send invitation". Next, you will have to enter the Iberia Club number of the person you want to invite and ratify it with your own date of birth. The invitation will be sent after you accept the terms and conditions of the Family Account and validate the operation by entering the unique code that you will receive by email. This invitation will be active for 7 days only, but it can be resent to the same person or someone else.

  • Wait for the guest to accept the invitation.
    The guest will receive an email inviting them to join the Family Account. Once they have accepted the invitation, they will have to log in to Iberia Club or Iberia Kids, accept the terms and conditions of the Family Account and enter the administrator's date of birth. They will have 7 days to accept the invitation before it expires.

Do members have to remain in the Family Account for a minimum length of time?

Each member must remain in the Family Account for at least 12 months. Members can only leave the account for a justified reason, and they must request withdrawal through their Iberia Club Service Centre.
Only the account administrator is authorised to remove members, as long as they have remained in the account for at least one year.

How does the Avios balance work in the Family Account?

In the private area of the Family Account, any member can check their transactions, their personal balance and the shared balance.

The only transactions that can be performed with the individual balance are:

  • The transfer of Avios between different Iberia Club accounts.

  • The merging of Avios with other airlines.

The loan of Avios is not permitted through Family Accounts.

Any member who requests withdrawal from the account will recover the individual balance they have at the time, which will be substracted from the total balance.

Who can use the Family Account Avios?

Any member of the Family Account can redeem Avios for flights for account members, without needing the approval of the other members.
They can also assign their Avios to anyone they want, even if they are not members of the Family Account, to get discounts on the purchase of flights or additional services (upgrades and other ancillaries).

Do the Avios in a Family Account expire?

The Avios in the Family Account will not expire if any of the members have reach the Plata tier or higher. At lower tiers, the usual Iberia Club expiry conditions apply.

What if I want to change or close the Family Account?

The administrator can cancel the account automatically twelve months after the last person joined, simply by removing all members. The administrator can only be changed through the Iberia Club Service Centre.
If a member wants to leave the account, they must request withdrawal from the administrator. When their withdrawal is effective, they will receive their proportionate share of Avios from the shared balance.

How will I find out about changes in my Family Account?

The system will send an email to each member whenever any of the following actions occur in the Family Account:

  • Acceptance of a new invitation.

  • Withdrawal by a member.

  • Any Avios transactions in the Family Account.

How do I claim Avios and Elite Points that are missing from the Family Account? 

Each member must submit their claims for missing Avios and Elite Points individually. In the case of minors, claims must be submitted by the guardian of their Iberia Club or Iberia Kids account.

Where can I check the usage of my Family Account Avios?  

In your private area you can check:

  • Your own balance and the balances of the other members of the Family Account.

  • Your own Avios transactions and the proportionate subtraction from the balance when a member uses Avios from the account.

  • The total balance of the Family Account.
