What can I take in my hand luggage?

The allowance permitted will vary depending on the class you are travelling in, the origin and destination. In general, the piece of hand luggage admitted on board cannot exceed 56cm x 45cm x 25cm. and must be light enough to be placed in the overhead compartment in the airplane cabin.

As well as the applicable allowance, you may also carry some other personal item free of charge (camera, folding umbrella, etc.).
Before boarding, you will need to take your laptop and any other large electrical and/or electronic device (tablet, video game console, hairdryer, travel iron, etc.) out of their cover or travel pouch and place them on a tray so that they can be inspected separately from your other hand baggage.

If you need to carry more than 100 ml of liquid medication or hypodermic needles (e.g., for diabetes) in your hand luggage, you must have a certificate from your doctor and show it at the security checkpoint.

Please remember that, for security reasons, objects such as scissors, knives and all sharp items should be checked-in as hold baggage and never carried in hand luggage. Safety or disposable razor blades are permitted on board provided that they are set in their cartridge.

What are the requirements for a child travelling alone?

Due to the special characteristics of these passengers, and for safety reasons, they may travel unaccompanied as long as they meet the following requirements:

  • Aged between 5 and 11.
This service is mandatory for children in this age group who are travelling alone.
  • Starting from 12 years old, the child is considered an adult for us and can travel alone (on other companies these requirements may vary). Therefore, Iberia has an assistance and companion service for minors aged between 12 and 17, which has to be requested beforehand.
  • Name of guardian responsible for the child at the departure point, address and contact phone number. The telephone number that you provide us in this section must be from a mobile phone if you wish to receive our text messages (SMS).
  • Name of the person responsible for the child at the arrival point, address and contact phone number.
  • Passport or visa, if required at the destination

As well as allowing us to determine the identity of the person responsible for meeting the child, this also allows us to contact this person if necessary.
Children are taken care of from their arrival at the check-in to handover of the child at the destination airport, and are also accompanied in transit if they have to change flights.

Save time by printing the form for our accompaniment services and you will be able to provide us with the copy already completed at the airport: Liability Waiver Form.

Take into account fluctuations in the currency exchange rate when purchasing the service.
Different charges, fees or taxes may apply in accordance with the law in each country.

In addition, the following recommendations should be taken into account:

  • Make bookings more than 24 hours before the start of a journey.
  • Arrive at the airport in plenty of time, in order to complete the documentation required.
  • Provide the minor with an extra copy of the relevant contact numbers at the origin and destination alike.
  • Do not leave the departure airport facilities until it has been confirmed that the flight has taken off.

Finally, please remember that, for the purposes of air transport, only passengers over 16 years of age will be considered as adults for the purposes of accompanying a child.

Can I travel with pets?

Pets (such as dogs, cats, birds, etc.) that meet legal and documentary requisites[Open in a new window] may be accepted as hold or cabin luggage.

Acceptance in the hold
Carry them in the hold in an appropriate cage or pet pack: resistant, secure, comfortable and ventilated. The number of cages or pet packs and their sizes is limited by the type of aircraft. If you intend to fly with your pet you should contact the Booking Office for authorisation. The trip can only be authorised when all of the flight legs are confirmed.

Acceptance in the cabin
Take them with you in the cabin if they don’t weigh more than 8 kg. (including their cage or pet pack, except for guide dogs and emotional support animals) with previous authorisation from the Booking Office.
The container may be a maximum of 45 cm in length, 35 cm in width and 25 cm in depth, provided that the sum of those 3 measurements does not exceed 105 cm.

As the number of cages is restricted on the basis of the type of aeroplane, the carriage of animals must be authorised by the Booking Office.
Authorisation will only be given for journeys when all legs are confirmed.
The size and weight of animals must be in keeping with the limits established for inbound and outbound flights.

In no case will the animal be able to leave its carrier inside the cabin, and the passenger is responsible for looking after it.

Please remember that if the carrier does not meet the minimum conditions for acceptance, it will be refused boarding. You can purchase such a kennel at larger pet shops or specialist shipping agents.

For further information you can see Carriage of domestic pets

And also you can consult www.iata.org

Single charge payable exclusively at the airport.
