Additional baggage

This is any baggage you might want to add on to your free checked baggage.

You can purchase it prior to making a booking (a first additional suitcase), or afterwards at Manage your booking or during online check-in if you need to take more luggage.

You will enjoy a discount if you purchase it before going to the airport. Check the available airports where you can buy additional baggage at iberia.com.

The maximum weight of each item is 23 Kg and you can pay a fixed fee for excess weight up to a maximum of 32 Kg.
We suggest arriving 20 minutes before the recommended time if you are taking additional baggage.

Flights with origin or destination Central America, South America (1), Angola (2), Asia or South Africa

Flights operated by AA, BA or IB with origin, destination or transit through the United States, Puerto Rico, Mexico or Canada.

Flights, to/from Africa (3) (except Angola and South Africa) and the Middle East

Domestic and European flights


(1) To/from Brazil, 2 pieces are permitted on all economy classes. The authorised weight per suitcase will be 32 kg instead of up to 23 kg, with this benefit being applied to both the outbound and return trip. Additional baggage will have a single cost of €120 or USD 120 per piece.
To/from Colombia or Peru and with origin/destination Spain, 2 pieces of 23 kg. Flights with code IB7XXX operated by Lan between Lima and Madrid are excluded.

(2) Economy class free baggage allowance to/from Angola is 2 items up to 23 kg each.

(3) There is a free baggage allowance of 3 items in Business Class and 2 items in Economy Class to/from Nigeria, Senegal, Ghana and Equatorial Guinea . Only one additional item of luggage is permitted to/from these destinations, at a flat rate of €200/USD 220 per item (to/from Equatorial Guinea €100/USD110).

(4) Tickets issued with a residents fare in the Canary Islands, Balearic Islands, Ceuta or Melilla will incur a €15/USD17 excess weight charge on the first suitcase, except flights code IB5000.

(5) Tickets issued with discount for residents in the Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla in Basic economy or economy Express have the first addicional piece of 23 kg luggage free.

(6) To/from Paris Orly (ORY) the price online for the first item of luggage is €20/USD22.
On flights between Las Palmas/Tenerife and Brussels, Geneva, Munich, Rome, Venice or Zurich and vice versa, the first suitcase, online, costs €20/USD22 and the second, at the airport, costs €70/USD75.

Exceptional cases

Maximum of additional pieces

There is a maximum of 10 additional pieces permitted on your free baggage allowance except on routes with particular restrictions. On flights involving Regional Air Nostrum (IB8000), only a maximum of 3 additional pieces of up 23 kg. will be admitted as excess baggage.

Flights with oneworld codeshare and associated companies

Checked baggage allowance of codeshare companies, i.e., oneworld and associated firms, can differ. For excess weight, excess baggage, etc., the baggage regulations of the company that operates the flight will apply. When you book you will find the details on the airline company that will operate your flight at bookings management. Check with the operator to confirm the baggage you can check in and other restrictions.

If you are travelling on an IB5XXX flight and/or in transit between IB5XXX flights, the free baggage allowance will be one piece of baggage weighing 23 kg. When the weight of the piece is more than 23 kg, every kilo over will be subject to a €12 surcharge, up to a maximum of 32 kg.. The surcharge per additional piece is €70 on domestic routes and €90 on international routes and Canary Islands, payable at the airport plus €12 per kilo of the weight of that piece.
