Shedd Aquarium

See marine life close up.

If you want to get in touch with the animal world there is no better place in the city than this indoor aquarium. Its creator, John G. Shedd, wanted Chicago to have a large-scale aquarium where residents and tourists alike could learn about marine life. So, in 1927, thanks to private investment, construction was started, in Museum Campus, of the largest aquarium in the world with an enormous freshwater pool with fish, reptiles and amphibians from all around the world. Years later, the inside aquarium was built with sea water brought by train from Florida. Officially opened in 1930, the aquarium has inside its historic building, the hugest variety of marine life with 35,200 living creatures swimming and crawling around in its galleries. Dolphins, penguins, otters, octopuses, sharks and frogs are just some of the animals you will enjoy here. You can get to know the animals at www.sheddaquarium.org
