One of the most renowned restaurants in the Community of Madrid outside the capital itself, Chinchón's Mesón Cuevas del Vino, has been serving superb traditional Castillian cuisine since 1964 in a farmhouse more than 300 years old. In fact, it's been a magnet for celebrities (including the great Spanish poet Rafael Alberti and cinema personalities Orson Welles and Yul Brynner) and film shoots (such as Welles' Chimes at Midnight). For all the history and lore, let's not forget the fabulous menu, specialising in meat dishes. Particular highlights include migas, a dish of breadcrumbs plus additional ingredients such as chorizo sausage and bacon; cured-ham croquettes; blood sausage, suckling lamb, and of course the classic Castillian suckling pig. There is a tasting menu, a children's menu and flamenco and other entertainment; and overall the prices are fair.
