One of the most picturesque and charismatic corners to eat in Copenhagen, the Maven Restaurant & Wine Bar can be found in the Nikolaj Plads, with the ancient building of Sankt Nikolaj Kirke as its backdrop, now the Contemporary Art centre. Its open-air terrace is one of the busiest in the city, so you should arrive in good time and enjoy the Nordic sun on summer days. The Maven, literally 'stomach', is in a 19th century building which used to house the old butchers of Copenhagen, and has now been converted into an avant-garde style restaurant. The specialities here are French and Italian cuisine, with some Danish influences. Remember that in Denmark, meals are only served from noon to 2pm and dinner from 6pm to 10pm.
