There are various tastings and opportunities for "olive oil" tourism

Add to my guide

Jaén, the heartland of olive oil

This region's most prized commodity, with centuries of tradition behind it

The saying goes that landlocked Jaén does have an ocean - only it's an ocean of olives, and one from which the world draws about a quarter of its olive oil. So it would be remiss to leave the region without getting to know a bit more about this critical local commodity and tradition. A number of organisations set up tastings which are often free of charge and held in notable landmarks such as Santa Catalina Castle or the Palacio del Condestable Iranzo. There are also companies which organise tastings for visitors in different languages, such as Cata y Cultura (www.CatayCultura.com).
