Pipirrana

Kind of a tasty cross between salad and gazpacho

While gazpacho and even salmorejo may be better known throughout Spain and abroad, another lesser known summertime treat of Jaén (and not all that easy to find outside this region) that's just as lovely is pipirrana. Kind of a cross between a salad and a cold soup, it's made up of tomatoes, onions, green peppers, garlic, a good dose of olive oil, and often tuna, and usually eaten with crusty bread. Its lightness, coolness, and ease of preparation make pipirrana especially popular in the heat of summer, whether at home or eating out.
