Sometimes it seems that Lanzarote's tourist areas are overwhelmingly awash in beach kiosks, pubs, fast-food spots, and English joints. But here and there you'll find some quite nice restaurants for a bit of actual Canarian cuisine, as well. One such is Mar Deleva, on Puerto del Carmen's Calle Los Infantes. Here's the Canary Islands' greatest hits, gastronomically speaking: papas arrugás ("wrinkled potatoes"); fried cheese; grilled local fish such as barracuda and white seabream; meat dishes with mojo picón (a garlic-olive oil dressing with chilies); and a great variety of salads. Throw in spectacular ocean views, impeccable service with careful attention to detail, and affordable prices, and this becomes a must-dine on any holiday.
