It is hard to single out one speciality in this great market, where the chilangos, (as the inhabitants of Mexico City are popularly known) come to buy the enormous variety of products on offer. It is also an interesting visit for the tourist because of its wide range of handcrafts, but it is important to remember that they also sell fresh produce and that there are many fast food venues hidden in its arcades. Among the latter, there is a mythical place called "Tostadas Coyoacán", a large shop -it has had to "grow" physically due to its increasing popularity - with three ever crowded bars where you can have all sorts of seafood. Everything is on display, in big bowls, and the pieces of toast are prepared almost instantly, so the client never has to wait for long. The market, created in 1956, houses over 450 stalls selling wicker products, fruit, vegetables, flowers, toys and costumes. This is the perfect place to find and taste new, truly typical flavours and products and to watch the busy day of sellers and buyers who always have time to talk to visitors.
