The Art Deco district is one of the jewels of this city. Although there are other examples of this style of architecture in different parts of the city, most of it is here in Miami Beach, especially along Washington Avenue, Collins Avenue and, above all, Ocean Drive. These building were constructed in the twenties and thirties, when Miami was marketing itself and showing itself off to the world as a tropical destination. If you look carefully, you will see that time seems to have stood still for these buildings. This is due to painting and restoration work, which means that they their facades still wear those pastel shades of blue and green, peach or candy floss pink as radiant as the day they were first painted. Currently, the majority of them are nightclubs, restaurants and hotels that have become a byword for South Beach.
