The most popular, authentic side of Paris is currently thriving on the streets of cosmopolitan areas such as Belville and Ménilmontant. Located in the twentieth arrondissement, these are home to a vibrant underground and alternative set of musicians, painters and artists. There’s an abundance of cafés and nightclubs to head out for a drink, catch some live music or sample some international cuisine at a very reasonable price. The Café Charbon is one of the best and most typical of the area. Talking of great nights out in the most colourful and vibrant venues, the district of Le Marais is also well worth a visit. You’ll be surprised by the eclectic mix of gay and heterosexual bars, nightclubs and cabarets all open well into the early hours. The majority are in the south east of the district or around the Rue Sainte-Croix de la Bretonnerie and Vieille du Temple.
