Philately and postal geeks really must carve out several hours to head to the Costa Rica Central Post Office Building (Calle 2 between Avenidas 1 and 2), whose Museo Filatélico traces the history of postal systems back through the ages, from primitive stones to e-mails (though the most prominent display is naturally reserved for the history of the Costa Rican post office, founded in 1849). There are activities, too — puzzles, designing stamps, even playing at being letter carriers.
