The city of Santander has been chosen as the host for the 2014 ISAF Sailing World Championship. This competition is the most important event in the world of sailing and is held every four years in a different location in the world (the lastcity to host was Perth, Australia). Its regattes also determine who will go through to compete in the Olympic Games, which means that this year’s winners in Cantabria will go through to the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. All categories will compete in the same place, which is exceptional, as they are usually separated. This means that these competitions will be even more exceptional, with extremely high turnouts. Almost 1,000 boats will participate in the Sailing Championship, and almost 100 different nationalities will be competing. During the month of September, the whole of Santander Bay (from the Pereda Gardens to the Peligros Pier) will witness the world’s most important sailing event.
