If you visit Santander in the summer months, you need to know that the city celebrates its Patron Saint in July. The main day of festivities is the 25th of July, which is the day of Santiago, the Patron Saint of Santander. During the two weeks that surround this day, the streets are filled with fun things to see and do. Firstly, you will see food stands selling what are called ‘festival tapas’, and it is tradition to tour them all and sample the dishes that each one has to offer. Secondly, concerts are held all over the city, such as in Porticada Square. However, the biggest concerts are during Music Week in La Magdalena field. Every festival day ends with a giant concert here. If you are here on the 25th, find a place to sit on El Sardinero Beach and watch the fireworks display, which are part of this city’s tradition.
