The stone crane

Memories of the port.

The stone crane is one of the city of Santander’s main symbols. It is an accidental homage to the city that was once the old Cantabrian capital. This crane was one of the many that were in the shipyards, which helped build the Santander port to give it newfound industrial potential. Although little is left of this city, as it is more focused on tourism and business than shipyards, this crane serves as a reminder of the old port. Located just a few metres from Embarcadero Palace, it is also the start of the Maritime Promenade and offers spectacular panoramis views of the entire bay. This is a popular meeting point to start a tour of the city, as well as for youths, who meet here before their night out.
