A famous Gothic cathedral tower that's a city symbol - and a great place to catch a sunset

El Miguelete Tower

Everybody loves 'Little Mike'

The tallest and probably the single most reknowned component of the Valencia cathedral, El Miguelete ('Little Mike') is a Gothic tower designed by Andreu Juliá, one of the 14th century's most distinguished architects, but since he died before its completion, the project was taken on by other distinguished names of the day, Pedro Balaguer and Martín Llobet. The name Miguelete comes from one of the tower's dozen bells (which mark the time of day precisely), as it was blessed on September 29, 1418, the feast day of St. Michael. Beyond being a key symbol of the city, it also delivers some pretty sweet views out over the Old Town, especially at sunset.
