Built in the mid-15th century, Gothic twin watchtowers still stand guard astride one of the western entrance in Valencia's medieval wall surrounding the Ciutat Vella (Old Town). Named after the road to which the road from the gate led to, Quart de Poblet, used especially by traders from Castile. They receivied pummellings during the Peninsular War against the French in the early 19th century, the War of the Spanish Succession caused by the death of Charles II, and the Spanish Civil War - effects of which can still be noted to this day.
