It's true that Vienna has in the past had a rep as a somewhat stuffy, stodgy city where cafés and opera have been considered the very height of fun. But like any modern European city, it also has its share of cutting-edge nightlife. The scene is somewhat scattered across town but the top spots to know start with the so-called Bermuda Triangle, formed by the lanes of the city's old quarter. Along here you'll find some lively action throughout most weekend nights thanks to a slew of bars, pubs, and discos. Another happening area can be found along the line U6 of the underground between Burggasse-Stadthalle and Alser Strasse; actually, in this part of town the train runs at street level and there are quite a number of good drinking spots all around the area.
