Iberia does not allow the transportation of animals from the weasel family (ferret, sable, etc..)

1. Admittance to the hold

As a general rule, live animals must be carried in the hold of aeroplanes, in suitable containers provided by the passenger.Containers must have the following characteristics:

• Durability and security
• Comfort, bearing in mind the size of the animal
• Ventilation
• A lock that is guaranteed not to open at any point
• A leakproof base

Carriage will be refused if these conditions are not met.
Animals in the hold are not accepted on IB5000 (Vueling) flights.

2. Admittance to the cabin

At the request of the passenger, and subject to authorisation from the booking office, certain pets may be carried in the cabin, provided that they meet the following conditions:

• The weight of the animal plus the container or cage in which it is to travel may be no more than 8 kg. The container may be a maximum of 45 cm in length, 35 cm in width and 25 cm in depth, provided that the sum of those 3 measurements does not exceed 105 cm.
• Animals must be carried in suitable containers (solid, ventilated and secure, and with a leakproof base). Such containers may be provided by passengers or purchased from Iberia. In the event of a container failing to meet the minimum conditions for admittance, it will be rejected when boarding.
• Birdcages must be durable and have a secure lock. It must not be possible for food or drink to be spilled therein. Additionally, cages must always be covered.
• In the case of animals of reduced size or weight, several of the same species may be admitted in a single container.
• Under no circumstances will animals whose particular characteristics, unpleasant odour, etc., may disturb other passengers or the crew be admitted.
• Animals must travel with the passenger, without disturbing those travelling alongside them.
• Passengers carrying an animal in the cabin may not occupy seats in rows corresponding to emergency exits.
• Under no circumstances may animals be released from their containers inside the cabin. Caring for the animals will be the responsibility of the passenger.

3. Authorisation for carriage

As the number of cages and their dimension is restricted on the basis of the type of aircraft involved, the carriage of animals must be authorised by the booking office. Authorisation will only be given for journeys when all legs of the journey are confirmed. The size and weight of animals must be within the limits established for inbound and outbound flights alike.

Countries with laws restricting the bringing in of animals:

• No pets allowed in the cabin (PETC) or hold (AVIH) on flights to / from Ireland and the United Kingdom(on flights LHR / MAD we can only accept animals in cargo. You must make arrangements through a cargo agent who will make the reservation for hold in Iberia Cargo. You cannot do this directly with IB cargo. )
• Brazil only allows entry of birds that meet certain requirements. More information
• Argentina: should present an animal health certificate to the authorities, issued by a licensed veterinarian, disease-free and showing it has a rabies shot valid for a maximum of 1 year.
• Panama:By order of the Panama authorities, as of 1 November 2011 any pet that travels should have an export certificate for small species issued by the health authority of the country of origin, showing that it has been vaccinated against rabies, together with a good animal health certificate, certified by the Panama consul in the country of origin, the certificate of rabies vaccination should also be notified with three (3) days' notice of the arrival of the pet(s). 4. Charges for pets

Cabin rates for animals: PETC*
Domestic: € 25 per flight.
European, African: € 50 per flight.
American flights: € 150 per flight.

* If you are travelling on an IB5000 (Vueling) flight connecting with a flight operated by Iberia or Iberia Regional, the cost of the service will be the same.
On IB5000 (Vueling) point-to-point flights or on journeys where IB5000 flights connect with another IB5000, the cost of the service switches to € 25 per leg on domestic routes and € 40 per leg on flights to/from the Canaries or international flights.
On IB5000 (Vueling) flights rodents animals will not be accepted.

Hold rates for animals: AVIH**
Domestic, European, African (except Johanesburg) and Middle East flights: € 120 per flight.
American flights: € 300 per flight.
For origin America, Nigeria or Israel :300 USD per flight.

**This service may not be requested on IB5XXX flights..

If you a travelling to/from USA and have a flight connecting with another airline, please note that:

• If you a travelling with AVIH you cannot check it in to the final destination. The AVIH must be collected at the transit airport and checked-in with the other company, paying the appropriate charge to each of the transporting carriers.
  For transit flights, an AVIH must be sent via the Cargo area.
• If you are travelling with a PETC, you will also have to pay separately to each airline.
• American Airlines has its own restrictions and regulations for checking in pets. Only guide dogs and sniffer dogs used in search and rescue missions may travel in the cabin. Animals that travel in hold may not be checked-in in transit, at the final destination. If you are travelling with American Airlines and you wish to take your pet, we would ask you to check the airline's website, shown at the bottom of this page.

Various charges, taxes or duties may be applied, in accordance with the legislation of each country

5. Admittance of guide dogs

Please bear in mind that:

• Guide dogs will only be admitted to the cabin when accompanying passengers who depend on them for their orientation
• They must wear a muzzle if travelling in the cabin
• They may not occupy a seat and must travel alongside the passenger, in the place where they will cause least disturbance to the other people on the flight
• They may travel without extra charge, whether in the hold or in the cabin
• The weight of the animal will not count towards the allowance permitted for passengers' journeys
• The regulations as regards admittance, documentation, form of indemnity exempting Iberia from liability and the type of container used (if travelling in the hold) will be the same as apply to all other pets

Deaf passengers will require a medical certificate attesting to their condition.
