Powered wheelchairs

Complying with certain requirements, they will be accepted in the hold, forming part of your free baggage allowance.

For total security during the flight, they will only be accepted in the hold as long as they meet the following requirements:

For dry-cell battery-powered wheelchairs

They may be transported as checked baggage so long as the battery terminals are insulated to prevent possible short circuits and the powerpack is securely attached to the wheelchair and is disconnected.

For spillable battery-powered wheelchairs

They may be transported as checked baggage when they can be loaded, stored, secured and unloaded always in a vertical position and when the powerpack is disconnected and secured to the chair and the battery terminals are insulated to prevent against possible accidents. Otherwise, the powerpack should be separated from the chair and may be carried as checked baggage. The powerpack shall be properly packed as follows:

Packaging must be leak-tight, impervious to battery fluid and be protected against violent movements.

Powerpacks should be protected against short circuits and placed vertically in rounded packaging made from absorbent material.

In any case, we recommend you contact Iberia.

Baggage allowance

Mechanically activated wheelchairs and similar mobility aids shall be considered as personal items or accessories of the passenger and will therefore not be subject to excess baggage charges.

Passengers with reduced mobility can take two additional pieces of mobility equipment (wheelchairs, walking frames, etc.) at no additional cost.

The Czech authorities inform passengers travelling with an electric wheelchair that they should hand them over at check-in, where they will be provided with another, manual wheelchair to get around the airport and the boarding area.
