Museum of the Revolution

This museum is truly a museum

The museum occupies the building that housed the Presidential Palace from its opening in 1920 to 1959. The building was conceived by the Cuban Carlos Mauirí and the Belgian Paul Belau. Its exterior harmoniously combines architectural trends in vogue in its time, emphasizing especially its volumes and forms. It shows a detailed history of the main moments in the struggle of the Cuban people throughout the twentieth century. Inside you will find photographs, weapons, documents, and objects related to different revolutionary actions. Outside is the Granma Memorial, which houses the Granma yacht in a huge glass urn. In it, Fidel, along with 82 expeditionaries from Tuxpan, landed on December 2, 1956 near Las Coloradas beach, marking the beginning of the last stage of the guerrilla struggle which culminated with the Triumph of the Cuban Revolution on January 1, 1959.
