Beaches, traditional towns, a spot of history
Granada's so-called Costa Tropical is a lovely alternative to the Costa del Sol. You can opt to head to its main tourist towns, Motril or Almuñécar, a bit under an hour from Granada city, or explore smaller, lesser known villages and towns (nearly twice as far away). In either case, you'll find wide beaches (though stony, not sandy), good eating options, and a nice selection of shopping. In Almuñécar, in addition, you can visit the Roman Archaeological Museum and San Miguel Castle. Another option, halfway between the two aforementioned towns, is Salobreña, a whitewashed village which seems to rise over the Mediterranean and enjoys a lovely climate all year round as well as some magnificent beaches.
