Museum of Jaén

Two museums in one.

The museum of Jaén province began as the Museum of Painting back in 1846, and since then has moved and morphed numerous times before arriving here at its current 16th-century neoclassical quarters on Paseo de la Estación. Today's Museo de Jaén includes the Provincial Museum of Fine Arts and the Archaological Museum, which can be visited separately. The latter offers interesting displays with items and artifacts from the Roman, Visigothic, and prehistoric periods, while the arts museum is dedicated to painting and scultpure of the 19th and 20th centuries. Prominent here is hall devoted to Jaén painters such as Rafael Zabaleta, Cristóbal Ruiz, and Manuel Ángeles Ortiz. Groups may request a guided tour.
