The Alhambra Museum

A must to pair with your visit to the Alhambra.

If you're wondering what happened to the stuff in the Moorish Alhambra's now empty rooms, well, you've found it. On the ground floor of the Palace of Carlos V, next door, this museum established in 1940 houses important cultural and artistic artifacts of Al-Andalus culture in Iberia, discovered over the course of more than 150 years (one hall is organised by themes, the rest in chronological order). It's considered the world's best collection of Nasrid and Moorish objects such as tiles, glassware, and porcelain - many of them taken from the Alhambra and with special attention to the final centuries of Al-Andalus, the Nasrid period (1238-1492). Open mornings daily except Monday.
