Santo Domingo, San Sebastián, and San Telmo are other city churches well worth a visit
Handsome architecture, artistic treasures
In addition to Santa Cruz's most famous church, the Iglesia del Salvador, the city is also home of course to various others - some of striking beauty. One of the most prominent is the Iglesia de Santo Domingo, dating from 1530 and located on the plaza of the same name. Built atop the previous Monastery of San Miguel de las Victorias, it harbours an important wealth of religious art of the Renaissance, Baroque, and neoclassical, including its main altarpiece, pulpit, and images of St. Francis of Assisi and the Archangel Michael. Others worth mentioning include the hermitages of San Sebastián (with aspects of Flemish art), and San Telmo, built in the 17th century on the Risco de la Luz overlook, from which you can catch some spectacular views over the city and its port.
