Basque Handicrafts

Cultural mementos

Though today's sophisticated San Sebastián is full of fancy upmarket retailers like those along the Avenida de la Libertad, it also still has small businesses scattered throughout the Parte Vieja (Old Town) which specialise in traditional handicrafts such as the kaiku, a carved wood milk receptacle. Then there's the makila, a traditional Basque wooden cane. And of course the kutxa, a type of large wooden chest. All these and more interesting items await those who are interesting in shopping for authentic Basque products.
