White and minimalist, designed by Rafael Moneo

Church of Iesu

A modern landmark

Located in the green, outlying Riberas de Loiola neighbourhood (adjacent to the historic Amara neighbourhood), this may well be one of the more unusual-looking churches you'll come across. The white Iglesia de Iesu (the Latin name for Jesus) was inaugurated in 2011, designed in a blocky, minimalist style by starchitect Rafael Moneo. Its immediate setting is the Parque de la Memoria (Park of Memory), dedicated to the victims of terrorism, violence, and war.
