One of Spain's most distinguished theatres is a neo-Renaissance jewel you mustn't miss.

Victoria Eugenia Theatre

Curtain up, light the lights!

Built in 1912 according to a neo-Renaissance/Plateresque design of Francisco de Urcola, the theatre named after Spain's then queen has been witness to more than a century's worth of dramatic changes in San Sebastián and has become a beloved local icon - as has the Hotel María Cristina, built simultaneously. The façade is laden with historical references and symbols, mostly meaningful to those who are familiar with city history, while the interior has staged some of the most high-profile musical works and performers of the past century, and is also among other things one of the sites of the city's reknowned international film festival.
