Although it sounds like a cliché, we can confirm that it's true, with no fear of being wrong: Canarian bananas are one of the best gastronomical products in the region, and one of the world's most appetising. What you probably don't know is that the cultivation of this typical island fruit wasn't initiated by the people from the Canary Islands, it was the British who started to cultivate them during their stay on the island throughout the 19th century, while they developed their cultivation techniques. They did this so well that the quality of the banana reached international fame, and the cavendish variety is exported to a large number of places in the world. A typical Canarian recipe? Try the famous "plátano escarchado con gofio" (sugar coated banana with roasted maize meal), as a kind of breakfast and prepare yourself to start the day with energy.
