A review of the great works by the most international visual artist of the island.
A tribute to the great painter.
There's no question that the most outstanding cultural figure of Gran Canaria, at least when it comes to painting, is the artist Néstor Martín-Fernández de la Torre, who is quite an idol on the island. The works by Néstor, as he was known, have an essential role inside the symbolist and modernist movements; so much so that many experts have considered them to be essential, in order to comprehend these vanguards. His creations appear scattered in some of the city's most important buildings, decorating the walls of the Pérez Galdós theatre, for example, but the most outstanding part of his work rests in this museum that was opened to the public in 1956, thanks to the private transfer of various families: throughout twelve themed-halls, you can enjoy his gallery of portraits, his masterpiece titled Epitalamio, or particular series such as Poema de la Tierra or Visiones de la Isla. You'll love it!
