Ibiza's best known beach still has a delightfully castaway feel
Beaches were what put Ibiza on the tourism map back in the 20th century, and Cala Compte is Exhibit A. Located near the island's west coast, just down the coast from Sant Antoni de Portmany, its powdery white sands and brilliant turquoise waters are surrounded by gorgeous scenery, featuring dramatic cliffs and out on the horizon, a small island, the Illa d'Es Bosc. It's popular year round with sun worshippers, whose only worry is how long they want to luxuriate in it all. Our recommendation: get out here early, when it's practically deserted, and have a leisurely soak in the limpid waters. Another wonderful time of day is sunset, of course. Decisions, decisions...
