Hacienda San Jacinto
A tribute to an incident in which a battalion resisted an invading force
The memory of a historic milestone
The historical museum of San Jacinto is found at the outskirts of Managua and represents a central location in Nicaragua's contemporary history. Its activities aim to remember and pay tribute to the achievements of the national regulatory army of the mid-19th century, as they fought a group of armed invaders. This refers to an event dated to 1856: a Nicaraguan battalion, taking refuge in the Hacienda San Jacinto, caused a larger number of enemies, American filibusterers led by the mercenary William Walker, to flee. The museum is located in an old farmhouse, restored and divided into three rooms, which house artefacts, drawings and accounts related to the exhibition's various motifs.
