The Museum of Antioquia
Pre-Columbian relics, modern creations, and large works by Botero.
Art turned into magic
We're not mistaken by stating that this is the most important museum in the city. The Museum of Antioquia is the headquarters for culture in Medellín, and an ode to good taste where hundreds of top quality works are on exhibition by national and international artists. It has sixteen rooms in which pre-Colombian relics to important contemporary creations are on exhibition, as well as an interesting display of religious art, and works that make a complete tour round the history of really creative Antioquian art. Among all these collections, the drawings, paintings, and sculptures by the great Fernando Botero stand out, who is a Colombian artistic emblem par excellence: you can enjoy his best works in this museum which he donated to the museum during the latter decades of the last century. The grandeur of this place began even before it opened its doors, as you can also enjoy some huge sculptures by the grand master outdoors on the square called Botero Plaza, where you'll find this museum.
