The buildings and bohemian atmosphere turn it into a very curious and untypical district.
The new district of Zurich West is the perfect example of how the industrial architecture trend had a special welcome and relevance in the city. This district was the city's main industrial engine until well into the 19th century, which was left somewhat abandoned later on, and turned into a less desirable place until the later decades of the 20th century. Nevertheless, the important reparation and restoration work carried out here naturally turned it into a different, and very original place: the industrial constructions have been preserved, and nowadays they are dedicated to art galleries, exhibitions by designers, concert and theatre halls, and all kinds of cultural activities. Shops and businesses are also established here, as well as a good number of restaurants where you can try traditional Swiss food, and the city's vanguard cuisine.
