The Garonne is a big part of what makes Bordeaux, so a river cruise should be a part of your visit.
Discovering Bordeaux from the eau.
The Garonne River has been a formative part of the history of this city, and so experiencing it from the water taxis and river cruises that ply its waters is recommendable indeed. The docks, the historic port area, and the grand architecture that lines both banks of the river are reason enough to board one of these river excursions, which can be booked at the local tourism office for about 15 euros. One good company is Croisières Burdigala, with comfortable boats which include explanatory narration as you cruise along. You can also opt for a nighttime cruise, a very romantic option indeed if you're with a significant other. A range of other options exists, as well, including private cruises for groups.
