Remember to go and watch a musical as well as to contemplate its interesting architecture.
A revolutionary theatre of its time.
If you like the theatre and you would like to go to a show, don't miss out on the opportunity to do so at the Det Ny Teater. Its doors opened for the first time in 1908 and the setting is remarkable; similar to the Opéra de Paris. One of its more unusual aspects is the architecture, which consists of two façades: one facing the Vesterbrogade and another facing the Gammel Kongevej. The whole body of the theatre is suspended in the air with a passage crossing it underneath. It was the first theatre in Denmark to have a revolving stage and a balcony as well as a revolutionary fire safety system that produced artificial rain indoors. It is also the second largest theatre in the country at 12,000 square metres. After economic difficulties and neglect forcing it to close, in recent years it has been renovated and has now become home to musicals that pass through Copenhagen.
