This is the only remaining Almoravid structure in Marrakesh. Its inner cupola is a must-see.
A glance into Almoravid history
Marrakesh was founded in 1062 by the Almoravids who built a spectacular villa with an abundance of buildings. Unfortunately, the city was completely destroyed by the following dynasty, the Almohads, who would rebuild it 150 years later. Today, if you walk through the northern part of Medina, you will discover the only standing remnant of the Almoravid heritage, the Koubba el-Badiyin. Its specific charm lies in the fact that it is a rare example of the first architecture of Northern Africa. Its cupola is one of the city's most admired attractions. To visit this complex that offers a unique insight into the history of Marrakesh, you can buy a combined ticket with which you can access both the Koubba and the nearby Marrakesh Museum and the Ben Youssef Madrasa for around 6 dirhams.
