Archaeological Civic Museum of Bologna
Prehistory, classical antiquity, Emilia-Romagna - a nearly overwhelming treasure chest
Indiana Jones comes to Bologna
One of Italy's oldest and most important museums, established in 1881 in one of the city's most sophisticated and prestigious buildings, the Palazzo Galvani, the Museo Civico Archeologico di Bologna boasts a wideranging collection that can be nearly overwhelming. That includes artifacts and artwork of prehistory; classical antiquity (Etruscan as well as a notable collection of ancient Greek and Roman statuary); the history and art of the local Emilia-Romagna region; and one of the world's most respected collections of ancient Egypt - the tomb of the 14-century-BC Pharoah Horemheb is especially popular.
