Beaches in Montevideo

National pride.

These beaches are one of the defining features of the city and a real point of pride for the capital. A pleasant stroll on a sunny winter's day? A quick dip to cool off in the heat of the summer? There are endless reasons to head to the beach. The most popular is probably in Pocitos, although all the city's beaches have the same fine, white sands and offer endless open-air activities. For example, a rocky island known as the Isla de las Gaviotas that is a popular haven for birds can be seen from the Malvín beach. Further along, at the end of the coastal promenade, you'll find the quieter Carrasco beach. To escape the hustle and bustle of the inner city head west to places like Punta Espinillo; a rocky beach with crystal clear water that is a popular fishing spot. Whatever your idea of a great day on the beach, you'll sure to find the perfect spot in Montevideo.
