Welcome to the first designer cafe in Montevideo. It never disappoints.
Taking it name from the small street on which it is located, this cafe stands on the site of the old "El Vasquito" bar, a meeting place for intellectuals and VIPs from the world of theatre. Its close proximity to the Solís theatre played a big part in this. This rather dreary bar was completely revamped but the original essence and spirit of the place has been lovely maintained, making Café Bacacay a flagship establishment in the Ciudad Vieja area and the city's first designer cafe. The contemporary architecture of a historical building from 1844 and its international cuisine are the calling cards of Bacacay. It has a large menu with a wide variety of big flavours and endless options: salads, appetizers and nibbles, main meals such as the sirloin steak in Tannat wine or the salmon in wasabi, desserts and cakes. The appealing atmosphere is topped off with excellent blues and jazz.
