Museo Juan Manuel Blanes

The nation's painter.

Thought of by many as the nation's best painter, this centre dedicated to Juan Manuel Blanes opened in 1930, coinciding with the 100th anniversary of his birth. It is located in a beautiful garden known as the Jardín de los Artistas in the Parque El Prado, which is well worth a visit in its own right. The collection has changed over the years, starting out with a strong focus on 19th-century art and shifting to more modern pieces in the fifties. It currently exhibits a range of work that pays homage to great artists such as Figari or Blanes himself. In the temporary exhibition room, you'll find work that reflects on aesthetic and doctrinal contrast. However, its internal courtyard is what really sets this place apart, with the incredible acoustics making for an unforgettable theatre and music venue.
