Sip and nibble
This island actually produces some splendid wines, which have in the past several decades been marketed under a La Palma denomination of origin, divided into three production zones: Hoyo de Mazo, Fuencaliente, and Norte. These wines are young and sweet, and can be found in most island restaurants and pubs. Wineries where you can buy bottles include Bodegas El Hoyo (www.bodegaselhoyo.com) in Hoyo de Mazo; Bodegas Carballo (www.bodegascarballo.com), in Fuencaliente; and Bodegas Noroeste de La Palma in Tijarafe. There's also a denomination of origin for cheese. Queso Palmero can be bought at very good prices at virtually any of the weekend farmers' markets in various towns across the island.
