A swim along a pretty black-sand beach, then a soak in curative hot springs

Charco Verde Beach & Medicinal Springs

Sweet little beach with a difference

Just as on the neighbouring island of El Hierro, many points along La Palma's coast have been named charcos (puddles), but in fact they're eminently swimmable. The most significant is Charco Verde, 50 kilometres (30 miles) from Santa Cruz, just outside Puerto Naos. This lovely bay is home to a sweet little black-sand beach some 100 metres (328 feet) long, divided by a huge boulder dubbed el muellito ("the little dock") and perfect for splashing about as well as casting a fishing line. Also here is a hot spring which has for well over a century attracted locals (and some visitors) for its supposedly curative properties.
