Teatro de Verano Ramón Collazo
A unique and exemplary theatre: seventy years old, big stars and the most famous carnival competition in the country.
Personality and magnetism
There are very few places in Montevideo with as much personality and magnetism as this theatre. Opening in 1944, it is located on the banks of the River Plate, in the area known as the Canteras del Parque Rodó and is one of the cultural hubs of the city. A large part of its charm stems from the spectacular dome positioned over the stage. This was built using reinforced ceramic technology, which is based on the use of bricks to create curved surfaces. During its more than seventy years of success, the very best national and international artists have trod the boards at the Teatro Ramón Collazo, making this theatre a highly respected venue on the capital's cultural scene. However, the main event comes at the beginning of the year, with the hugely popular official carnival competition. Not to be missed!
