An endless array of traditional Moroccan wares - hookahs a-go-go!
In Melilla there is a great jewelry tradition, so unsurprisingly it's easy to find superb designs in all manner of fine metals and precious gems. Watches are especially characteristic of local wares, and you'll find an endless variety of types, qualities, and prices - a both attractive and useful memento of your visit. If you're looking for something either more affordable or exotic, you can also opt for an item of traditional North African craftsmanship. In the marketplaces of Melilla you'll find the likes of traditional dishware such as tajines; decorated metal items like mirrors and tea trays; and of course the famous hookahs or water pipes, whose use the merchants will explain to you. You may feel tempted to haggle, but this is Melilla, not Morocco, and the practice is not as common here.
