Avant-garde Moroccan art
If you’re curious about which trends are up and coming in the Moroccan art world, you cannot afford to miss the Nouiga Gallery situated in the old quarter of the city, a bubble of avant-garde innovation poised amidst tradition. Its inaugurations are considered social events, with the city’s intellectuals often being seen in the gallery, more to look around than purchase anything, but always intrigued by the art itself. The gallery organises permanent and temporary exhibitions of photography and painting, as well as other disciplines of plastic arts, with particular emphasis on the country’s young emerging artists. The works they exhibit do not seek traditional forms, but rather transgression and vindication, often through a message of political or social significance. You will also be amazed by the exhibition of international works as part of the “guest artist” programme. In addition to the actual exhibition hall, you will find a library dedicated to the world of art, with a range of interesting titles in various different languages.
