Museo do Fado (Fado Museum)
Fado sanctuary that seemingly vibrates with these melancholic, nostalgic and worldwide famous melodies.
Amalia Rodrigues and more.
The fado was born in Alfama - the most characteristic city district - which not surprisingly houses the temple honouring this great musical genre. The houses of the most important fado artists lie fairly close to the sanctuary, which engulfs you in these sad melodies and helps learn the history of its major figures like Amalia Rodrigues, the fado queen. Opened in 1998, it boasts a temporary exhibition room and a collection intended to bring traditional music closer to young people. Moreover, you can see old records and posters, listen to recordings, admire the Hall of Fame and even observe the traditional guitar manufacturing process. As you enter the museum, you will find yourself in an overly folkloric Portugal, that shown on the genre paintings on its walls. Do not hesitate to request a sung visit for a truly immersive experience. To that end, consult the website of the museum http://www.museudofado.pt/
