Cruising down the Foz shoreline by bicycle

Trips on wheels.

For more active travellers, a rustic trip on two wheels while breathing in the sea air could be just what the doctor ordered for enjoying Porto’s fresh air and temperate climate once Spring is here. The Foz do Douro seafront is one of the best places to do this. This exclusive district begins where the river Duero runs out into the sea and ends, after travelling down the beach, at a 17th century fortress called the Castelo de Queijo (Cheese Castle!). It’s living space comprising modern and expensive buildings, lively and casual, with stores, clubs and upmarket restaurants. It’s worthwhile to let yourself be transported the length of the seafront – where the views at dusk are unmissable- and to visit the maritime rocks on the Paseo Geológico (The Geological Walk) (http://www.cm-porto.pt/pgfd/). Other high interest points which you’ll encounter on the cycle route (or on foot) are the São João Baptista (St.John the Baptist) Fort and the São Jõao da Foz church.
