You guessed it. Tango is also on the menu at this bar. Head down to Fun Fun to catch a show.
The home of tango.
Together with Buenos Aires, Montevideo is the birthplace of tango; an unmistakable style of music and dance whose origins in the poorer areas of both portside cities established deep-set roots with the working class. In the Uruguayan capital, neighbourhoods such as Barrio Sur, Aduana or Aguada have a strong tango identity as do certain legendary bars, such as Fun Fun; the city's leading shrine to tango. Founded at the end of the 19th century by Augusto López, this bar has been visited by various generations of locals and tango stars such as Aníbal Troilo “Pichucho”, Julio Sosa “El Barón”, Astor Piazzola and the legend that is Carlos Gardel. As you sit back and enjoy the uvita, a mysterious alcoholic drink invented by the bar, the festive and friendly atmosphere at Fun Fun will take you back to the old, although not necessarily better, days. Ready for a great night out? ;)
